The Center launches two studies to measure weather elements associated with heat stress inside and outside the camps

The Center launched its field research and study work related to heat stress and sunstroke during this year’s Hajj season in Mina, with the aim of cooperating with the concerned authorities in reducing the number of cases arriving at hospitals and health centres.

The Director General of the Center’s General Administration for Research, Development and Innovation, Dr. Turki Habibullah, explained that the study on heat stress depends on measuring temperatures inside and outside the camps by measuring temperatures, wind speed, and humidity levels, then assessing the heat stress of pilgrims in cooperation with the Ministry of Health to calculate the number of sunstrokes that occur. It may affect the health and safety of pilgrims.

The center also conducted another study to calculate the number of sunstrokes by applying some numerical models based on indicators of temperature, relative humidity, solar radiation, and wind speed, based on the cases registered in hospitals or health centers in Mina, where the number of health cases is entered into the numerical model in addition. to the weather condition for the same day and then a certain value is issued for a certain number of sunstrokes during the target period

The Center is conducting these two studies with the participation of qualified experts and technical and scientific cadres who work on writing reports, conducting studies, and scientific publishing. This step aims to increase the efficiency and quality of scientific research at the Center as well as the concerned authorities with specialization in common fields.
