Joint Team to Support Saudi Arabia’s Use of China’s Next-Generation Satellites in Meteorology
Dr. Ayman bin Salem Ghulam, CEO of the National Center for Meteorology and President of the Asia Region at the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), held a meeting today (Thursday) with Dr. Chen Qinlin, the Permanent Representative of the People’s Republic of China to the WMO. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 79th session of the World Meteorological Organization in Geneva.
During the meeting, both parties discussed activating the provisions of the Memorandum of Understanding signed between Saudi Arabia and China in the field of meteorology. This includes capacity building, exchange of technical expertise, and leveraging China’s advancements in applying artificial intelligence to meteorological services. The discussions also covered enhancing cooperation on satellite technology, with particular focus on utilizing the Chinese meteorological satellite "Fengyun-4B."
It was agreed to establish a joint working group to assess the technical aspects and provide appropriate support from the Chinese side.
