NCM Continues Full Operational Readiness with 100% Sky Coverage and Advanced Monitoring Technology in Preparation for Hajj Pilgrims on the Day of Tarwiyah in Mina

The National Center for Meteorology (NCM) continues its operational efforts and delivery of meteorological services and data in Mina in preparation for the Day of Tarwiyah, as part of an integrated system that supports safety plans and facilitates the performance of Hajj rituals. These efforts are carried out in coordination with the relevant authorities working across the holy sites.

The Center relies on a comprehensive network of advanced technologies and highly qualified national staff to provide timely weather updates and forecasts. Weather data and potential atmospheric phenomena are updated at the top of every hour, in line with global best practices in observation and forecasting.

As part of its Hajj operations this year, the NCM is closely monitoring weather conditions across Makkah, the holy sites, Madinah, key entry points, airports, and major connecting roads. This is made possible through an integrated system that includes weather radars, satellite imagery, the Saudi Numerical Weather Prediction Model, and comprehensive (100%) sky coverage over the holy sites—all managed by highly trained national specialists.

To expand its geographic coverage, the Center has strengthened its monitoring network in Makkah and the holy sites with 16 automated stations and 2 staffed stations in Mina and Arafat. These stations will issue 1,920 hourly weather bulletins during the Hajj season, supported by a mobile observation unit and a fully equipped operations room running 24/7.

On the Day of Tarwiyah, the NCM will issue 24 METAR (Meteorological Aerodrome) reports and 8 SYNOP (Surface Synoptic Observation) bulletins from Mina. In the event of severe weather, additional special reports will be provided. Alerts and warnings will also be communicated as needed through the automated Early Warning System. The monitoring network in Mina comprises both manned and automated weather stations, ensuring accurate and continuous observation.

The Center also continues its awareness and media programs through the Media and Awareness Production Center in Mina, offering weather updates and awareness messages in five languages. These are distributed across 14 digital and media services aimed at pilgrims and field personnel, using advanced AI tools and modern visual production techniques.

For the Day of Tarwiyah in Mina, the Center forecasts a high temperature of 40°C, a low of 29°C, wind speeds reaching up to 65 km/h, humidity levels of 65%, and partly cloudy skies with the possibility of suspended dust.

The National Center for Meteorology reaffirms its commitment to providing continuous meteorological services around the clock, in support of national efforts to ensure a safe and reassuring environment for Hajj pilgrims.
