Regional Cloud Seeding Program
What is cloud seeding?
It is a technique to increase the quantity and quality of rainfall for certain types of clouds, to exploit their characteristics and stimulate and accelerate the process of rainfall in specific and pre-determined areas.
How does cloud seeding work?
Through aircraft dedicated to planting fine materials that do not harm the environment in specific areas of the clouds, which changes the precise physical processes within the cloud itself.
Cloud seeding program initiative objectives
- Increased rainfall levels
- Finding a new source of water
- We intensify afforestation through rainmaking.
- Reducing desertification
- Qualification of national cadres
Cloud seeding techniques
The process of cloud seeding is done by seeding clouds using modern techniques via (aircraft, ground generators, drones).
Impact of cloud seeding program on the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia
- Searching for new water sources to help alleviate drought phenomena
- Preparing natural and environmental resources for adaptation and enhancing environmental performance
- Building human capacity and emphasizing its impact on the surrounding environment
- Increase rainfall and achieve environmental sustainability
The Kingdom's experiences in cloud seeding
- (2009) Contracting with WMI: Implementing the rainmaking project using 10 specialized aircraft with the participation of an elite group of Saudi scientists.
- (2006-2007) Signing an agreement with WMI: Implementing rainmaking experiments for 6 months in the central regions of the Kingdom (Riyadh, Qassim, Hail)
- (2004) Contracting with WMI and scientific supervision from NCAR: Conducting rainmaking experiments in the Asir region and studying the feasibility of the experiment.
