Memorandum of Understanding Signed between the National Center for Meteorology and the Saudi Geological Survey

The National Center for Meteorology (NCM) signed a Memorandum of Understanding today in Jeddah with the Saudi Geological Survey (SGS), aimed at enhancing joint cooperation across several scientific and technical areas. The agreement is intended to align national efforts and foster knowledge exchange in support of sustainable development.

The MoU sets a framework for collaboration between the two entities in key areas, including the exchange of expertise and technical consultation, the sharing of data, documents, maps, and scientific reports, as well as the joint execution of studies and research projects, with their findings to be published in local and international scientific journals. It also includes the co-organization of scientific events such as conferences, seminars, and workshops.

Other areas of cooperation include exploring the use of SGS sites to install NCM’s automated monitoring stations, enabling direct electronic linkage between their respective databases, and supporting research related to climate change—particularly studies focused on the impact of climate shifts on the Earth’s surface.

The agreement also opens the door for collaborative projects or specialized studies, whether executed jointly or commissioned by one party to the other. Furthermore, it promotes cooperation in meteorological services, including access to climate and historical weather data, forecasts, observation stations, and the meteorological services platform—all in line with applicable regulatory frameworks in the Kingdom.

This memorandum reflects the NCM’s ongoing efforts to expand institutional partnerships and strengthen coordination with relevant national entities, contributing to the advancement of its operations and programs and supporting data-driven decision-making across key sectors in Saudi Arabia.
