Positive indicators of dust storms gradually decreasing in the Kingdom... and we are coordinating regionally to reduce their effects
The Executive Director of the Regional Center for Dust and Sand Storm Warning, Jamaan bin Saad Al-Qahtani, confirmed that the Kingdom is witnessing a noticeable gradual decline in the rates of dust storms during the recent period, attributing this to the efforts made by the Kingdom in paying attention to environmental issues through the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 programs, which aim to reduce Dust and sand storms and reducing their impacts in order to enhance environmental sustainability and achieve a sustainable future for current and future generations, indicating that the Center is continuously working to coordinate with countries in the region to reduce their impacts.
This came at the opening of the virtual scientific symposium held by the Center today (Thursday) on the occasion of the World Day to Combat Sand and Dust Storms, which falls on July 12 of each year, with the participation of local and international officials, scientists, and experts, to review the latest scientific research and proposed solutions to combat dust storms and reduce their effects.
Al-Qahtani stated that the Kingdom has made many efforts in this regard, such as launching the Middle East Initiative in April 2021 in support of the Green Saudi Initiative, with the aim of planting 50 billion trees, in addition to establishing regional centers concerned with warning of dust and sand storms, climate change, and precipitation as part of the Green Middle East Initiative, in addition to It works intensively to combat sand and dust storms, with continued investments in research and technology to better understand sand storms, develop solutions to mitigate their impact, and cooperates with regional and international partners to combat sand and dust storms.
